ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY STORAGE TIPS
March 3rd, 2021
Have you gone green? We’re not talking about a green thumb or going green in the face. We’re talking about being environmentally friendly. For many of our customers, going green is the way to go. Did you know that you can go green when you store your items? It’s super easy to get started. Here are some ways to reduce your carbon footprint.
Sustainable food storage
Mason jars make excellent containers for herbs, spices and everyday kitchen staples. There are also plenty of online tutorials that show how to transform ordinary items into unique works of art.
Burlap bags are another option for keeping produce fresh in the fridge without having to use disposable plastic bags. You can find them online for a reasonable price.
Repurposing everyday items
Egg cartons can be used to store multiple small items around the home such as batteries, knick-knacks and crafts. Shoeboxes are a great resource for putting away any goods that you’re not ready to part with.
Wooden pallets that are often disposed at hardware stores can be upcycled into a side accent table, a bed headboard and much more. You can even choose to leave it bare or stain it with whatever wash you admire.
Paper or Plastic?
In this case, plastic is the way to go for storing delicate items. The great thing about clear plastic containers is that they have a longer lifespan than cardboard boxes. Most cardboard materials wear over time and can’t be stacked without breaking from the weight of its contents.
Whether you’re moving spaces or trying to move some items from your space, you’re bound to get rid of a few things. Luckily, many objects are recyclable. You can also give your items a second home by hosting a garage sale.
